Thanks, Sha, for the pictures. And thank you for your permission to blog them.

I am glad you kept the apron. It is pretty. I have forgotten about it until you mentioned. Did we have cooking class in Form 4 and 5? I can't remember. I remembered cooking Asam Ikan Pedas and I remembered Mrs. Chin as our cooking teacher. But I don't think I would know her if I see in public. It is too long ago. Can you?


Sure looks like a teenager, back in our school kitchen!

Where are my former classmates and Form teachers? I am sure I have walked/passed some of them on the street for not recognising them. Except for those that I mingled with, most of the time during school days, and kept in contact since leaving school, I can't even remember the others. I wouldn't apologise if I have walked/passed you because if you had recognise me you would have greeted me!

I thought I upload these old pictures in my blog and maybe someone would recognise himself/herself here!! Thank God for the invention of scanner to scan our old non-digital pictures. Classmates Meet

Classmates meet again! Actually I felt like calling Chew and tell him that I was not going. I am glad I didn't. I believe there were times in our lives when we just don't feel like doing this or that but were thankful when we didn't follow that negative feeling. Of course, there were times when we are grateful that we followed our feelings. There are feelings of not wanting to do things and there are feelings that we need to do this or that. In my religious belief we call that the bad and the good spirit.

In tonight's case, it was my bad spirit telling me not to go. It is just like the feeling of not wanting to pray, to go to the sacrament meeting, visiting our families or just merely calling or visiting our friends. It was definitely not the good spirit because I was not going to rob a bank.

I know there are 'friends' who will never call, visit or write but that is okay. They are just not that kind of people. It is sad to hear some people said that they are lonely because their friends don't make contact with them. It makes me happy to hear when they said they are grateful for my visits. It makes me feel good to know that I can help to uplift some spirits in this way.

Classmates, especially when you have been with them for years, are not just ordinary friends. We have sat in the same classroom, played together and saw each other at least 5 days a week. We didn't end up marrying each other but we know and understand each other and are comfortable in each other's presence, like brothers and sisters, accepting each other's increasing greying hair, wrinkles, dry and sagging skin.

1st Wedding Reception of A Classmate's Child

When Hamim asked if I would be in Miri on this day, I said I could arrange. Siew Kuan remarked that this was the 1st wedding reception of a child of a classmate he attended, it struck me that it was for me too! I was available at the right time :)

Finally the LGSS's 45th Anniversary Reunion Dinner was here!

I came to know about it when the four of us visited the school on the 5 September.


I had just came back to Miri on the 2 September and I was excited when Angela asked me on the 4 September if I would go with them to visit our school. She didn't tell me about the 45th Anniversary celebration then. They asked that I stay back for the special occasion. The date fitted into my schedule!

It didn't fit in Catherine's (who was our class and school head prefect) schedule. We missed her this night.

Our dear KK, who is best in gathering the classmates together, emailed on the 21 September 2008:

Hi Folks, First of all, this is not meant to be a disrespect or an insult nor be offensive to those observing the Ramadan.You may have already known or heard about it. Just to inform those with email box and some of whom I had also smsed on the LGSS 45TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION organised by the school.

Please now book your calendar for this event and do spread the news to relevant others.

Time & Date: 7PM sharp Sunday 2nd November 2008.
Venue: EASTWOOD VALLEY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB (somewhere at the Miri Bypass - that between the Padang Kerbau flyover to Miri Airport)
Ticket Charge per head:RM40.00

Those interested individuals at KL/Singapore/Kuching, etc., are to timely email or sms confirm attendance with Aisah (she had affirmed 3 definites but would furnish the names soon) or me for the ticket reservation, pay to Aisah/me during collect the ticket at the venue.

Attendees from outstation are to advised make their own early online flight booking (MAS or Air Asia) or via travel agents to Miri. Our MASWings " globe trotting " MD Dr. Amin Khan maybe available for request to assist in getting the MAS flight seats under specific dilemma situations.

Though comfortably confident with the current confirmed and not withstanding an interim booking of just 1 table for 10 people, all message recipients in this distribution loop are to let Aisah or yours truly know/updated timely in order to possibly address the booking for adjacent tables - birds of same feather flock together.

Those who had already sms or phone called to me in confirm attendance, where in this email loop do not have to response.

The evening came! KK and Angela picked me up and passed me my ticket.


There were a lot of people attending. It was good to see familiar faces again - students from other classes, senior, juniors, and not forgetting the teachers. The best part was meeting our own classmates, some of which had been my classmates since Primary.

The Banquet hall in the Eastwood Club. Incidentally, this was my first visit to the Eastwood Club. I had been invited to join New Year Eve Dinner and other occasion there but didn't join.


I think this is the SMK Lutong Choir. The school was renamed Sekolah Menengah Kerajaan Lutong when the medium of instruction was changed from English to Bahasa Malaysia.


What was disappointing for me was we didn't get to visit with each other much ! There were about 22 of us, and therefore 2 tables. Each table seated 10 persons. Jamel was not seated in either of these 2 tables and that was not very nice. Worst of all these 2 tables were not next to each other!

Talking about reunion. Yes, it was a reunion for all the students that have studied there since its formation in 1963 but it was not much of a reunion for our class. That was what I am disappointed in.

I was thrilled when Angela asked me whether I would like to visit the Lutong Gov't Sec. School tomorrow. And more thrilled when I learnt that it was in relation to the school's 45th anniversary celebration on the 2nd November.

We were the 1st batch of Form 4 and Form 5 in the school. Just 1 class of Form 4 Arts in 1970 and 1 class of Form 5 Arts in 1971.

Classmates: Peggy, Catherine, Irene and Angela. Catherine was our class prefect and also the head school prefect.

I forgot I was one of the magazine committee. I didn't know I was that good enough to be chosen :) Don't know where my copy of the magazine has gone too???? I didn't take it with me when I got married and moved out of my parents' home.


It is now called Sekolah Menengah Kerajaan Lutong, which is actually the same as Lutong Government Secondary School, but in the national language. Our medium of instruction was in English but it has been changed to Malay later.

What will your life be without friends? I think I would die early because it would be so lonely. Friends from childhood, adulthood. Friends from primary, secondary, college, university. Friends from work, hobby, social, church.

I am so grateful for friends, that I know, who are mindful of me and who supported me through thick and thin. I am grateful for friends, that I can think of and look out for, who I could forget myself in.

I am so grateful for friends who have shown and taught me about going through trials with faith, acceptance, cheerfulness and a positive attitude.

Today, Angela (a secondary classmate) and I were happy we were able to visit Agatha (a workmate) who has a heart problem, who could only drink a certain amount of water a day and Catherine (a secondary classmate) who has breast cancer.

When will I see you again?
