Saturday, 15 October 2005

After rehearsal of a play for the youth camp in December, the youth and the YW counselors decided to pay a visit to the almost completed new chapel building.

This is taken from the side view of the sacrament hall.

The Road from my house to the chapel.

On this sunny day, Lyanne and me decided to visit the new chapel building before Lyanne fly back to KL on the 7 July. If she does come back in December for her short semester break, the building would be finished. So we decided to capture it during this construction phase.

I am going to miss her very much! She is God's gift to me, my beloved beautiful little angel.
We drove the red Madza 808 there (partially seen in this picture).

This is the main road, linking the Lutong town to the Miri city. Nobody will miss the chapel building because it is next to the road. I know everyone will ask "what is that building?"

Entering the front

Whenever I pass this site, on my way, either to the Miri city or to the present church meeting house, I cannot help noticing its progress.

This is a very unqiue building. I have never seen
any of this kind of structure in Malaysia, 2 identical single detached houses linked together. I have seen terraced houses but this is not terraced houses. It will definitely be the talk of the town. We will have the opportunity to tell them that it is our church and to share our gospel.

Side wall of the left building

I saw a big spacious hall in the left building and I
believe this is where the sacrament meeting will
be held. I can't wait for the first Sunday meeting in this chapel. It will be history!

The Link (what do you call it technically?) between the left and the right building

It does not matter whether it is raining cats or dogs, whether it is burning hot, we will be shaded while moving from one building to another.

More of the Link

There are so many rooms in the right building. I believe they are for administrative purposes and the auxillary organisations.

God's Children

We happened to be visiting during the lunch break. We saw these 2 brothers having their beauty sleep. I hope they will feel their Heavenly Father's spirit as they laboured to build His House. I hope they will eventually love the place and inquire about it.

Bap
tismal Font

Never seen this kind of bath tub before.
There were steps going down on both sides of the basin. I believe it is the baptismal font.

Just Looking

Time to go. I went back into the left building and was just looking out of the back to see the surroundings. Lyanne was still in the right building and she caught me in the camera!!

I am looking forward to the dedication of this chapel!! Watch out for the postings of that historical event!

The Meeting House (Miri)(3rd)

Third Meeting House
Moved back from Kota Kinabalu in February 2005. Visited the house for the first time on a Saturday evening that saw the baptism of the maternal grandparents of Kevin's maternal grandparents, Brother Bunya and Sister Belanya. Good work, Kevin, I understand that you taught them the gospel.

Second Meeting Place

I only came here a couple of times from year 2000 to 2004 because I was staying in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I have moved to Kota Kinabalu in December 1999 and stayed until January 2005. It was the corner shoplot. Next door was a pizza shop but it has changed since.

The Meeting House (Miri)(1st)

First Meeting House
This is my church's first meeting house in Miri. I always pass this house on my way back home from the town and never knew that this is a church!! And found out that the owner is my secondary Form teacher!! In April 1998, me and my children sent 2 missionaries back to the house. Elder Whitcomb and Elder Redd were staying there. We got to meet Elder Neeley and ??? - I have to check that up and update). We also got to meet a very nice missionary couple from Canada, Elder/Sister Folsom. All of them live on the first floor. Later in the year, the young Lord's warriors moved to another place nearby. My first impression of the missionaries - they were different, unique, special - they are like lighted candles in the dark! You can feel their love for you and you cannot help loving them back.

This house is where my children and me were taught the 6 lessons, where I learnt about Heavenly Father and his salvation plan. This is where I was baptised on the 9 May 1998 and where both my 2 children were baptised also (1 January 1999). This is where I was called as the 1st counselor in the Relief Society in 1998, then the seminary teacher in 1999 and the Primary President for 1 month (I think) in November 1999. This is where we have our firesides, enrichments, barbeques, Xmas party. This is where I delivered my first talk "Endure to the End" and my first public prayer. This is where my extended family is.

(inserted by Elder Cragun, 15 December 2005)
I stayed there with my companion Elder Anderson and the couple E&S Jeppesen, Jan to Apr 1997. Our bedrooms were upstairs and church was downstairs. One Sunday morning I was getting dressed for church when suddenly Gloria and the other kids suddenly came running up the stairs. I had to run in the bedroom and shut the door! We used to sit on three sofas to hold our church meetings. When attendance grew, we started bringing out the dining room chairs. Finally we had to order 30 chairs from a furniture company. We thought that would be enough for many years, but soon the Church was ordering more.
